Mrs Reg

{cell_title}

Elizabeth Regnery

Mrs. Elizabeth Regnery, Max’s mother, is the stable manager. A former hippie, Mrs. Reg is liberal and open-minded. When a human or animal is sick, she prefers to seek out homoeopathic solutions rather than rely on traditional Western medicine.

A self-proclaimed horse psychologist and animal psychic, she lives in a world of her own. Adults think she is completely nuts but the kids find in her an off-beat wisdom. Never taking sides, or playing favourites, she is always available to lend an ear, even if she does tend to ramble on about Cobalt’s past life or Starlight’s inferiority complex.

The Saddle Club girls aren’t about to talk to adults about their problems, but somehow Mrs Reg isn’t really an adult. Believing that every lesson in life is somehow related to horses, Mrs. Reg’s advice is cryptic at best but, for whatever reason, the girls always feel better after speaking with her. And who knows? Maybe there is something in what she says.

Catherine Wilkin ( Plays Mrs Reg )

Catherine often plays elegant professional women, with well-coiffured hair and traditional values. The role of Mrs Reg with her tangle of wild hair and rather bohemian garb is an interesting challenge. "This is a good change of roles from the lawyers and well-heeled characters I am usually associated with." says Catherine.

New Zealand born, Catherine did her Bachelor of Arts in Auckland but has been based in Australia for most of her career. One of the country’s most respected actors, Catherine has won a Silver Logie for Best Actress, a Penguin Award for Best Actress and the N.Z. TV Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Equally at home on stage or in front of the camera, her stage roles include The Goldberg Variations (Playbox Theatre), Burnt Piano, The Misanthrope and Shark Fin Soup (all for MTC) and Lady Windermere’s Fan and King Lear (Circa Theatre, N.Z.).

Her film roles include Small Town Blues (He Taonga Films) and Brilliant Lies (Bayside Pictures). Catherine has played a variety of leads and guest roles in Australian and New Zealand television, including The Lost World, Blue Heelers, The Chosen, Swimming Lessons, The Magistrate and This Man … This Woman and MacLeods Daughters. Catherine was also in Flipper 4.

I see Mrs Reg as an old hippy, but more exotic. She has had a few dreams and aspirations in her life and maybe some disappointments. But she has her own unique way of dealing with problems. She is warm and earthy, with a great affinity for the girls in The Saddle Club.

The Saddle Club™ series stars three heroines, Stevie, Carole and Lisa, who form The Saddle Club™ at the Pine Hollow Stables. Each character has a distinctly different personality but all share an equal love of horses and a strong loyalty to each other.
