Stevie Lake

Stevie Lake abandoned her given name of Stephanie almost before she could talk and was always a bit of a tomboy. Now, tired of being considered one of the boys, but uncomfortable with the preening of other girls her age, Stevie clings to the one thing that remains constant: her love of horses.

Her younger brother, Michael, 9, is the ultimate pest and seizes any opportunity to aggravate and annoy his sister. Stevie’s older brother, Chad, 14, does nothing to dissuade Michael from irritating Stevie. He is the one who started the family tradition of practical jokes. Even though Alex, 12, plays his share of jokes on Stevie, he is fiercely protective of his twin sister. Even though he likes to remind her he is older - by six and a half minutes.

Stevie’s parents, George and Catherine, are both lawyers with hectic schedules. They both worked hard for everything they achieved and are determined to instill a solid work ethic in their children. They have agreed to pay for one riding lesson a week but Stevie must work at the barn in exchange for additional lessons.

Sophie Bennett ( Plays Stevie )

Sophie was pretty cool auditioning for the role of Stevie, until she got to the final call-back. "I was excited and nervous at the same time, a little bit scared, but I just tried my best. I told my mother that if I got the role, I wanted her to walk to school and tell me. And when she walked into the class in the middle of the day, I knew I had it. I whispered it so some of my friends, we all jumped up and down, then I raced to ring my dad. It was just so exciting to know that I would be coming to Australia for five months and filming a series with horses," she enthused.

Sophie’s film and television experience include roles in What Katy Did (MOW for Catalyst), The Unicorn’s Secret (NBC Miniseries), Code Name: Eternity (Warner Bros./Protocol), Universal Soldier (MOW/Catalyst), Real Kids, Real Adventures (Discovery Channel), Goosebumps (Scholastic/Protocol), The Mighty (Miramax), The Clinic (MOW/Showtime), Mother’s Day (ABC/MOW) and Sneaking (Ryerson Student Film). In theatre she has appeared in Souled Out for Kids in Action.

Canadian Sophie started her career as a baby, appearing in commercials. "I just kept going after that. My brothers and sister had also acted a bit so it’s a family thing."

I think Stevie is a really unique and cool person. She likes to shop at op. shops and she is an excellent rider. She’s very funky. She and I are alike in some ways. I like shopping as much as she does, but I’m more into modern clothes, like tank tops and clothes like that. But we both adore horses.

The Saddle Club™ series stars three heroines, Stevie, Carole and Lisa, who form The Saddle Club™ at the Pine Hollow Stables. Each character has a distinctly different personality but all share an equal love of horses and a strong loyalty to each other.
