Scooter

Brian ‘Scooter’ Mulcahy

Scooter is a charming youth with a roguish sense of humour. He loves computers because he approves of the way they do your thinking for you, while you get on with other schemes. Like the alchemists of old, Scooter likes the idea of turning lead into gold, setting a system up and then sitting back and counting the returns.

That’s why he wants to be the manager of the Saddle Club Singers. Lisa, Stevie and Carole will do the hard work and he does the hard bargaining – everybody wins especially him.

He has mastered AI technology and lives in the hope that one day he will be able to write a program which will provide him with the key to wealth, fast cars and wall-to-wall computer games.

Everybody at Pine Hollow likes Scooter because of his happy-go-lucky nature and general air of devilment. He loves a laugh and is very good company, and will stop you working at the drop of a hat. He is employed around Pine Hollow to install a computer system and as a general ‘gofer’. Pine Hollow does not have a lot of money to spend so Scooter is doing everything on the cheap, using cannibalized computer parts.

Scooter is an irrepressible, puckish scallywag and this appalls Veronica who sees his presence at Pine Hollow as another sign of declining standards. But that’s Veronica – everybody else finds Scooter very entertaining.

And he has as many angles as the Eiffel Tower.

Alex Marriott ( Plays Scooter )

When Alex first saw the film Indiana Jones, he decided he wanted to be an actor because, at seven years of age, he thought that having adventures in exotic locations was what actors did. It didn’t take him long to figure out it wasn’t quite like that but his love of acting was spawned.

Acting classes when he was ten carried the dream further and he is still totally committed to the career. “I also did a Summer School at NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) where I learnt so much. I had done some characterization and script reading techniques at St. Martins Youth Theatre and other studies but this was really helpful,” he enthuses.

Alex plays the role of Scooter, an Irish stable-hand and displays a very credible accent. “He’s a good character to play, with lots of energy. My Irish accent isn’t too bad and I’m still working on it,” he says.

Alex displays a passionate love for acting. “I am so excited about being in The Saddle Club. Every day is a challenge and, even though I know I am not very good yet, every day I am getting closer to my dream of being able to act really well, like Kevin Spacey or Guy Pearce. Acting is the only career option I have; it’s not the fame or the money that hooks me into this job. It is because I really want to be a good actor,” Alex says.

I like Scooter. He is always looking for some hot deal to make and he pretends to be an expert in fields he knows nothing about. And he uses words like “entrepreneur”, “marketing strategies” and “entertainment industry” when he is trying to set up a deal for the girls’ singing career, and it is really just talk. But he is a nice guy and would never betray his friends.

The Saddle Club™ series stars three heroines, Stevie, Carole and Lisa, who form The Saddle Club™ at the Pine Hollow Stables. Each character has a distinctly different personality but all share an equal love of horses and a strong loyalty to each other.
