Mrs Reg

{cell_title} {cell_title}

Elizabeth Regnery

Mrs. Elizabeth Regnery, Max’s mother, is the stable manager. A former hippie, Mrs. Reg is liberal and open-minded. When a human or animal is sick, she prefers to seek out homeopathic solutions rather than rely on traditional Western medicine.

A self-proclaimed horse psychologist and animal psychic, she lives in a world of her own. Adults think she is completely nuts but the kids find in her an offbeat wisdom. Never taking sides, or playing favorites, she is always available to lend an ear, even if she does tend to ramble on about Garnet’s past life or Starlight’s inferiority complex.

The Saddle Club girls aren’t about to talk to adults about their problems, but somehow Mrs. Reg isn’t really an adult. Believing that every lesson in life is somehow related to horses, Mrs. Reg’s advice is cryptic at best but, for whatever reason, the girls always feel better after speaking with her. And who knows? Maybe there is something in what she says.

Catherine Wilkin ( Plays Mrs Reg )

“The best thing about life as an actress is that you often wake up in the morning and have no idea what the future will bring workwise,” says Catherine. “And ditto the worst thing about life as an actress,” she says. Catherine was born into a theatrical family so acting has always been part of her world. “It started as a passion and developed into a profession and here I am on The Saddle Club, doing something I love and watching new careers blossoming,” Catherine tells us.

Between the first two series of The Saddle Club, Catherine commenced playing a lead role in McLeod’s Daughters, an Australian television drama series. “So since the last series I have been involved in a series full of horses and determined women. It has certain parallels with our show but my character couldn’t be more different from Mrs Reg. I play the very wealthy, sophisticated wife of a cattle baron, who never rides and is far more comfortable in the city apartment than out in the bush. So it is a nice contrast to Mrs Reg whose is definitely more down to earth,” Catherine says.

Catherine is one of Australia’s most respected actresses and since arriving from New Zealand, she has played lead roles in film, television and theatre. Her awards include N.Z. TV Awards Best Supporting Actress for Swimming Lessons, Silver Logie Best Actress for her role in Rafferty’s Rules and a Penguin award for Best Actress in Flying Doctors. Her C.V. includes Embassy, The Magistrate, This Man This Woman, all for ABC TV, Blue Heelers, Halifax and Ocean Girl.

Mrs Reg has a down to earth approach to life which springs from a great love of the land and the animals and people around her. She is an enjoyable character to play because of this. She also has a little eccentricity and horse whispering thrown in.

The Saddle Club™ series stars three heroines, Stevie, Carole and Lisa, who form The Saddle Club™ at the Pine Hollow Stables. Each character has a distinctly different personality but all share an equal love of horses and a strong loyalty to each other.
